Bovine lameness is a serious issue. It is estimated that over one third of our national dairy herd is suffering at least one lameness incident in any one year, which is usually prolonged. It is a huge welfare concern and has enormous economic significance.

This meeting will inform practising vets about the welfare of cows in housed systems and public perceptions of dairy farming. It will educate vets on how to help their farm clients set objectives and achieve the highest standards of health and welfare in systems using housed dairy cows and robot milkers. Speakers include Peter Wiles from Nocton Dairies, Peter Edmondson and Matthew Watkinson.

Bovine Viral Diarrhoea (BVD) is one of the predominant endemic infectious diseases facing cattle vets and their clients. The Scottish BVD Eradication scheme gives an opportunity to advance disease control and eventually achieve eradication with full industry commitment. Vets have a key role to play in the process of communication, decision-making and management.
This new one day course covers the impact of transition cow management, the use of activity meters and technician heat detection services on fertility. It involves discussion on fertility assessment, and the use of data, and is aimed at the experienced practitioner. The first meeting recently held in Lancashire was very well received by delegates.
