The Vomiting Dog, an Approach for Large Animal Practitioners

G Russell
1. November 2008
In veterinary practice we commonly encounter the vomiting dog. It is essential to differentiate vomition from regurgitation. Vomition can be a sign of gastrointestinal pathology or a sign of systemic disease. Careful attention to history and a thorough physical examination is mandatory. A logical approach will help to narrow the list of differential diagnoses. Many cases of vomiting resolve quickly with minimal therapeutic involvement, however some cases are more challenging, require more aggressive treatment and a more comprehensive approach. This paper provides an overview of an approach to the vomiting dog.
