Why should veterinary practitioners need to know the intricacies of gene technology when neuronal synapses are already sufficiently frayed from the rigours of cattle practice? Why struggle with expression vectors and promoter sequences when the strain of dystocias frequently reach haemorrhoidal levels on the Reichter scale? Personal experience is that there are times when the answer is definitely feeble. However, there is also little doubt biotechnology has presently contributed and will continue to contribute powerfully to the art and science of veterinary medicine.
