Investigation of an Outbreak of Pneumonia in Housed Dairy Calves

Investigation and management of outbreaks of calf pneumonia is a common but often frustrating task. Morbidity and mortality can be high and the problem will often recur from year to year. Treatment is heavily reliant on the use of anti-microbials with control and prevention of pneumonia being difficult to maintain. This paper focuses on the investigation of a severe outbreak of calf pneumonia seen in late January 2009 in a 350 cow dairy herd near Aberystwyth, Mid Wales.
