Building good welfare into beef production systems can be achieved by managing handling system design, genetic selection and suckler culling policy. These three areas represent simple opportunities to improve beef cattle welfare in a systemic way. Improvements in these areas could also improve profitability and reduce the need for emergency veterinary interventions.
